Illiteracy

Illiteracy is one of the biggest problems that India is facing in the contemporary world. It is the mother of various other issues like poverty, population explosion, unemployment, child labor and female infanticide. When the masses are illiterate they are unaware about these social issues and consequently they end up being a part of it. Animal Cruelty

Animals deserve rights, regardless of how they taste or how convenient it is to experiment on them. Like humans, animals are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives. They are not ours to use for food, clothing, experimentation or entertainment. Animals have equal right of living on this planet and using each of its resource. Organisations like PETA are fighting for this cause and have made a remarkable change in people's thoughts towards other creatures.  Read more..


Dowry/Dahej

Dowry death every 1 hour 42 minutesOne of the biggest menaces of the Indian society is the dowry system. This fact that it is condemned by every modern citizen of this country and yet it still flourishes at a very large scale in our society is a testimony of how deeply rooted this system is in the Indian society. The practice of dowry has been a part of Indian marriages since quite a many years, earlier it was considered as a ritual in which the bride's parents give their daughter goods she would take with her, now it is just a money game between the two families.  Read more..


Child marriage

Child marriage is a common practice in many countries around the world, however it is especially prevalent in India, where more than one third of all child brides live. According to UNICEF, 47% of girls are married by 18 years of age, and 18% are married by 15 years of age. Read more..


Poverty

A condition that puts a lot of children at risk for many of the issues listed in this section is poverty. Lack of access to basic requirements such as food, shelter and clothing are the underlying cause of poor child health, poor child nutrition, child labour, child marriage and various other issues. Female Infanticide

In an alarming trend, girl child numbers in India have shown a sharper decline than the male children in the decade beginning 2001, leading to a skewed child sex ratio. Female infaniticide is practiced in a large number of Indian states.. Certain tv shows like laado (Haryana) have tried to depict the true picture of this malpractice. Although, it is seen in many parts of the world including China and Japan, India is the biggest contributor. Read more..


Old age mistreatment

Indian sons, and their wives, aren't treating their aged parents well. A study on abuse of India's elderly, conducted across 20 cities and involving over 5,500 older people, has found that almost 1 in 3 (32%) have faced abuse. The son has been found to be the primary abuser in 56% of cases, followed by the daughter-in-law in 23% cases. Read more..


Rapes

Rape in India is one of India's most common crimes against women.  Marital rape is now illegal in India but is still widespread. Official sources show that rape cases in India have doubled between 1990 and 2008. Read more..


Child prostitution

One of the most disturbing business of today's India is the trade of children and women for prostitution. There is an estimation of about 4 million sex workers in our country out of which 30% are children, there are children as young as 6 years old who are falling in this trap of human rights violation. The consequences include sexually transmitted diseases and eventual death. Many NGOs are taking a step forward to provide these children a future they deserve.Read more.. 

Illegal organ harvesting

India has become a center of the organ trade over the past few decades. Certain black market rings have been harvesting kidneys from poor Indian laborers, and using them in foreigners desperate for transplants. Illiterate workers promise the riches for the organs often die during the recovery when they are promised that they would receive excellent post-operation medical care. Read more..
